Setup (Linux) - GitLab (CS 200)
Table of Contents
1. Introduction
I'm writing these instructions for a Debian-based system, such as Debian, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint. If you are using a different Linux distribution, you will have to figure out what package manager it uses and how to install.
2. Programs to install
You can install these through the terminal or through a package manager like Synaptic.
| Program | Install command |
|---|---|
| g++ | sudo apt-get install g++ |
| make | sudo apt-get install make |
| git | sudo apt-get install git |
| A debugger (ONE of these) | |
| gdb | sudo apt-get install gdb |
| lldb | sudo apt-get install lldb |
| A code editor (ONE of these) | |
| emacs | sudo apt-get install emacs |
| vscodium | Download off website |
| geany | sudo apt-get install geany |
In class I'll be switching between code editors just to show what development looks like in each one.
3. Assignment turn-in
Let me know how setup went in the Canvas assignment.
- Which Operating System are you on?
- Did everything install OK?
- Which code editor did you set up? (geany / emacs / vscodium)
- Any issues with testing out the programs?
